Oct 06 Crumb played in Japan on the 4th October in Marz. What a great venue, crowd and after show party. Here is the video of the gig. A big thanks to Akinori, Jun and Kazuto for all their help in sorting this gig out. Photos to follow.
Sept 06 We played the Ballroom of Romance in the Boom Boom Room. Very enjoyable it was too. We played it with our math rock friends Lite from Japan, Gaju and The Ghostworld Project.
July 06 We have been very quiet of late but we played the Fed Up & Strange Hoot night in the Sugar Club. For this we chose MacArthur Park and Echo Beach. It was a alot of fun. A demo version is up on out myspace page. This was our first outing with out new bass player Fiachra and a fine job he did too. One of our tracks has been placed on the C06 compilation which is to celebrate the twenty anniversary of C86.
January 06 Hello folks. We have been busy demoing some new songs over the last few months. We were kindly asked to record a session for Dan Hegarty's show on RTE Radio 2 in November. We recorded it over three hours. It was broadcast on 29th November. If you would like to hear the session again you can email Dan. We recorded three new songs for the session, they are Like Goodbye, Gregor's Girl and My Last Chance. We are going to release these songs on a 7 inch single later this year. We have been getting some great feedback from abroad including a 10 star review from reputable Indie pages. They also placed us in the Indiepages Best of 2005 Top Ten!! We are really pleased to be in this list along with great bands such as Teenage Fanclub. Check it out and you can hear songs from the other deadly bands in the top ten.
18th September 05 We played two gigs this week and are looking forward to our gig next Sunday with Githead. Over the Summer months we have been busy recording an album with our friend Eoin from Budapest. We are hoping to release a double sided 7 inch with him. The track that crumb will include is 'Like Goodbye' and one other song. We are also helping to organise the Dublin, John Peel Tribute Day in The Hub on Thursday the 13th October. Playing on the night are Luggage, House of Mexico, Female Hercules & Hey Paulette. Spinning the unfashionable Peelie hits will be Leagues O'Toole from Foggy Notions and The Dudley Corporation. Should be a night of fun.
21st July 05 We did a radio interview last week for Sean Brophy on Anna Livia radio which was very enjoyable. We are busy demoing songs for our second album which we are hoping to release early in 06. If all goes to plan we hope to have our Crumb and Hey Paulette albums out in early Spring. We have a gig in Pravda on Wednesday the 14th September. It is part of the King Kong Club and it is free in!!
28th June 05 Thanks to all the bands that played the other night and for everyone that came down to see us. All the bands played really well and all the bands enjoyed it. We had alot of fun and will have fond memories of Mother Redcaps.
19th June 2005 We sadly heard on Thursday that the last pint will be served in Mother Redcaps on 4th July so we knew we hadn't got alot of time left to play this fine venue. There is more information over on the musiclee website along with an online petition. Apart from the venue it was a great market at one stage and it would be nice to see it kept as an open space as it dates from 1760. The line up is on the poster. Indie-pop tunes will be provided on the decks by Sir Thomas of the Hoot night fame. Come along early as thenames in a hat as to what order bands will play.
Melba is Eileen Gogan's (ex The Would Be's) new band with us as her backing band, The Ruby Tailights (ex Sunbear),Richer Than Astronauts are from another planet, House of Mexico are fuzzy pop and Groom have a lovely website with some tunes over here. Groom played amazingly at the last Hoot so it will be nice to see them do a full set.
10 June 2005 We are playing two gigs this week. One is in Tralee as Crumb and then the other is in Whelans as Melba on Saturday the 18th with Billy Childish & Buf Medways & The Urges. For this gig we are playing as Eileen Gogans backing band. Eileen used to be the singer in The Would Be's, she is now going under the name of Melba. The Would Be's were a poptastic band who were John Peel and Morrissey favourites. Their single 'I'm Hardly Ever Wrong' was number 12 in the John Peel Festive 50 in 1990! For this gig Derrick will go back to playing bass his first instrument and Eamonn will play guitar.
2 June 2005 Got our first UK airplay by Gideon Coe on BBC Radio 6. He said evenings & weekends was "a splendid lp". We received our first review for our single 'Follow Me Home' and a good one it was too. We also had our first press interview. The good folk at Twee.net have recommended our album and orders have all ready been received from Japan & Spain. The latest Leamington Spa Compilation is currently out, pick one up in all good record shops for an overload of pure pop bliss!
15th May 2005 Our gig the other night in Mother Redcaps was very enjoyable. We really liked this venue. House of Mexico & Large Mound were brilliant. It was alot of fun, so much fun our heads were very sore yesterday. We also heard that we were the first band on Tom Dunne's, Today FM show to score 100% in the Rising Artist of the Week Poll!!
9th May 2005 Tom Dunne from Today FM has given us Rising Artist of the Week again this week! This is the second time for him to choose us in three months. We were stunned when Tom offered it to us. The track he choosewas 'Follow Me Home' which is our first single from our album that is available to download from our eyes n'earspage. Alison Curtis, John Kelly, Stuart Bailie, ATL, Dan Hegarty, Cormac Battle, XFM, Freak FM have been very supportive as well. Thanks to everyone around the country that has been playing us. It's great! Got two great reviews this week and even made the home page of RTE. They must have been stuck for Entertainment news! They released they made a mistake and took us down a few hours later!
1st May 05 Our first single from our album is to be 'Follow Me Home' which was described by The Sunday Tribune 'as a stand out track that just won't get out of your head' and by U Magazine 'as an infectiously catchy foot-tapper'. This single will be available as a digital download from our eyes n'ears page.
On the gig front we are playing in Mother Redcaps, Dublin with the excellent Large Mound & House of Mexico on Friday the 13th of May. We are also going West to play the Hoot Night in The Roisin Dubh,Galway on Friday the 20th May. The theme for this one is Pixies vs Talking Heads. We will be joined on keyboards by Niall Mc Cormack ex Jubilee Allstars. The full line up of the bands playing is at the Hoot page. Looking forward to hearing what songs the other bands play.
21st April 05 Just back from our in-store in Tower Records. The launch of our album was last night in The Hub and it went really well. Thanks to everyone that came down to see us and big thanks to MEDEA and The Ruby Tailights.
01 April 05 The official launch for our debut album 'evenings & weekends' is Wednesday 20th April in The Hub. The album has been receiving alot of airplay, League O'Toole said we were his new favourite Dublin band and he played one of our songs every night while he was filling in for Tom Dunne on Pet Sounds. AlisonCurtis, Dan Hegarty and John Kelly have been very supportive as well.
Also playing with us on the night are MEDEA an all girl power trio and The Ruby Tailights. It is with great pleasure that we are playing with Martin Kelly (ex Sunbear) new band The Ruby Tailights. Admission to the gig is ten euros and you get a copy of the album.
March 05 Our album 'evenings & weekends' on the disques fridge label is back from the printing press and is available to buy online from Road Records. We were delighted with their write up of it 'excellent debut album from this Dublin based guitar outfit, jangly guitar pop rocksounds, like a cross between Teenage Fanclub, The Go-Betweens and The Byrds. We also got our first review from Siglamag.
February 05 We did an interview with Jimmy Murphy on South Dublin fm. Tom Dunne kindly chose us as the Rising Artist of The Week on his Pet Sounds Radio Show on Today FM. The song chosen was 'Lights of The City' There was a great reaction to this song which was really encouraging. This song is the opening track on our debut album ' The good folk at Trust Me I'm a Thief have added one of our tunes to their website in the radio streaming section. Alison Curtis also played us and asked us to do a session which we are looking forward to recording.
January 05 We had given up trying to come up with a title for the album one night and Eamonn looked at Derrick's guitar case and saw 'please send me evenings & weekends' that he had written in tippex about 16 years previously and as Derrick was going to Birmingham to see The Gang of Four the following week, they just went with the title straight away. We feel that the title suits most bands as unfortunately they only have evenings & weekends to play and record. Needless to say Gang of Four were incredible.
We got the album mastered in Nick Seymour's (Crowded House) Dublin studio. We got his approval he said that the album reminded him of other Australian bands notably The Go- Betweens! Leagues O'Toole played us on Today FM and described Lights of the City as 'a goodie'
December 04 Got the CD mixed by Stephen Shannon in Elusive Studios. It was finished on Xmas Eve at about 12:02am! We can't recommend Stephen enough, we didn't really need to be there as he has the perfect ear for just knowing what was right.
November 04 Spent an enjoyable but tiring week out in Redtape Studios with Pete Sisk. He got a great drum sound, which had been our problem before when we recorded it ourselves.
October 04 When out to Redtape to see what it was like and have decided to record out there. Played in Carlow with 79cortinaz. To stop the drum kit from moving we had to put a keg in front of it and the rain was coming in through the ceiling. We had a mystery dancer who was dancing along to all of our tunes. Very glamorous, just the way we like it.
Before this Played two gigs with Pat Clafferty and Alazarussoul, both were alot of fun.
